letting the light in

these short winter days have me wishing for more natural light –

without it, I feel like I’m living in an Edgar Allen Poe story. Even if it’s not particularly sunny or nice out, nothing beats natural light pouring in through glass windows, walls, or ceilings.

shabby chic in kamakura

I usually think of Japanese design and architecture as being extremely modern

and often sacrificing aesthetics for functionality. However, one look into Hitoshi Uchida’s home has changed my perspective drastically. Uchida, owner of J’Antiques Tokyo, has designed a home that is full of vintage charm. It’s shabby chic but with an industrial edge that keeps it both masculine and functional. Every corner of this interior seems so thoughtfully put together. His vignettes of weathered wood, vintage glassware, and antique frames capture the charm of a time that has passed.
